Attendance

The Government is most emphatic about the importance of regular attendance and the serious educational and social consequences of unauthorised absence by pupils.

It also highlights the need for schools to investigate all unexplained absences properly.

In addition to normal holiday periods schools are only able to grant TWO WEEKS for children to accompany parents on an annual holiday during term time. We prefer for parents to take their child/ren on family holidays during school holidays.

If a child is away from school for any reason the parents MUST inform the school of the reason for the absence. This may be in the form of a letter, a telephone call to the school office or even an informal chat with the class teacher.

It is school policy to closely monitor attendance and the Headteacher will notify parents if their child’s attendance rate begins to fall. The school’s Educational Support Worker may be involved to discuss attendance issues with individual parents.

Attendance at school is generally good, however, parental support is extremely important as children learn more readily when they attend school regularly.

Attendance Information:

Unauthorised absence is when the school is not informed of an acceptable reason why the child is away from school or is the result of taking more than TWO WEEKS holiday in term time.
