Inclusion

Each pupil in Y Canol has an individually tailored programme of inclusion.  For some children this means accessing mainstream lessons, with appropriate support and differentiation, alongside their peer group in either the infant or junior department or occasionally their neighbourhood school.

We recognise that some pupils need a small group setting to maximise the opportunities integrated activities offer.

The facilities at Y Canol have been designed to incorporate designated spaces and overlapping areas to promote this method of working.

For pupils with the most complex needs, meeting their mainstream peers within the security of their own classroom setting may provide the most meaningful solution.

In each of these scenarios teamwork and joint planning are the key to successful practice.  Schemes of work from the mainstream part of the school have informed curricular planning in Y Canol.  Where feasible we have sought common ground and made links with our mainstream counterparts to facilitate integration.
