Y Canol

At Ysgol Heulfan we are totally committed to the principles of inclusive education.  We also believe that children with complex learning difficulties require specialist teaching approaches, resources and facilities to enable them to achieve their maximum learning potential.  In Y Canol we are proud to be able to offer the “best of both worlds”.

Each child in Y Canol receives a curriculum that is individually designed around their priority needs.

We work as part of a multidisciplinary team with our colleagues from Health and Social Services.  Together we strive to provide every child with just the right balance of education, therapy and care to meet their specific needs.

Our excellent facilities include a soft playroom, sensory stimulation room and hydrotherapy pool.  Our class groups are small and our staffing ratios high.

Every child in Y Canol spends some time during the week with their friends from the mainstream part of our school.  How much time and whether they will get together to socialise or to learn is determined on a needs led basis.

We believe that children learn best when they are enjoying themselves.  Consequently much of the learning in Y Canol is play based and all of it is fun!  We endeavour to provide a caring supportive and stimulating learning environment.  We actively celebrate achievement in all its guises.

We like to work in partnership with parents and can guarantee you a warm welcome if you would like to visit.
